Egypt: fifth day of clashes between protesters and police

In a fifth consecutive day of violence in Cairo, police fired tear gas at protesters angry about football riots that killed 74 fans at a match on Wednesday.

Protesters hurled stones and debris at security forces who responded with tear gas in skirmishes close to Egypt's interior ministry building.
The violence continued after a deadly football riot last week that has fuelled public anger over lawlessness and collapsing security a year after Egypt's uprising.
Egypt's army-backed government said it was preparing to move ousted President Hosni Mubarak to a Cairo prison hospital in an apparent attempt to calm protests.
At least 12 people were killed in the nationwide unrest that followed the violent stampede after Wednesday's football game between Cairo's Al-Ahly football club and rival team Al-Masry in which 74 people died.
The youth activist movement is calling for the army to speed up the handover to a civilian government of the powers it assumed when ex-President Hosni Mubarak was forced from office a year ago.
